The Reeve Connectors' Blog http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com Campus life from the perspective of students posterous.com Thu, 10 May 2012 11:22:57 -0700 Mother's Day Tablet Wars http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/tablet-wars http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/tablet-wars

With Mother's Day fast approaching I was recently desperate for a gift idea. Unlike most college students who only have to fret about spoiling their mom on Sunday of this week, I have to spoil my mom on Sunday and on Friday (my mom's birthday). As far as gifts go, my plan was to go big or go home.

Although some of you out there may have rather tech-saavy parents, mine are not so. The only internet-enabled device they have at home is a three-year-old e-book that takes about fives minutes to load one page on the web. This is troublesome for a senior in college who is constantly armed with technology and access to answers about any topic I may stumble upon.

To solve this problem I decided to get my well deserving mom a tablet as a combined Mother's Day and birthday present. The one that I went with was the Kindle Fire, which is actually an e-reader, but I think of it as more of a tablet due to the wi-fi capability.

There were a few reasons that I decided on the Kindle Fire and not the iPad (even though I would have liked to get that instead). First, the price of the Kindle was much more reasonable for a college budget. At $199 you can download and read books, watch movies, use the web in wi-fi locations and get apps. The Kindle has a very similar processor to versions of the iPad, which was a selling point for me.

On the other hand, if I could have afforded it I would have gotten my mom an iPad instead of the Kindle Fire. The iPad has a larger display then the Kindle and a higher resolution. Personally, I am a lover of this device.

Thankfully, my mom won't know the difference between the Kindle Fire and the iPad, and I'm thinking she will be very happy with her gift.

What are you getting your mom for Mother's Day? What are you doing to spend time with her?

Tue, 08 May 2012 10:36:04 -0700 Thanks for the Memories http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/thanks-for-the-memories http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/thanks-for-the-memories

My five years at UW-Oshkosh have come to an end and in just four short days I will finally be graduating. I’ve had my ups and downs, and I’ve made memories that will last a life time. To everyone who has helped me along the way I am eternally grateful for all you’ve done.

In the future when I think back to my college career Reeve will always be the first thing to come to my mind. It has been one of the main parts of my college career and has taught me way more than I ever expected. Reeve provided me with two amazing jobs; I’ve met so many great people who I guarantee I’ll never forget. I can’t walk through Reeve without seeing someone I know; these people have become my family.

Each and every boss that I went through in the TUG (three) has always been there whenever I needed them and has taught me so much that I will carry with me to my big girl job. Working Reservations has given me the opportunity to meet tons of people, including full time staff, student employees, and the customers who find it necessary to call four times a day. After my three years here it’s those customers that have become my favorite to work with. I’m not quite sure yet if I should be proud of the fact that I know them just by their voice. Reservations has also taught me way more about Reeve than I ever cared to know. Lisa has also taught me so much that has prepared me for the real world and I'm sorry Lisa but I'm not going to miss changing the stupid marquee.

Having this blogging internship has taught me so much about the world of social media and I would love to find a job working with it in the future. Kate has been so helpful and has taught me so much more than I could have ever asked for. She has always been there for every question, every problem, and every misplaced comma. I’ve definitely grown in my writing and I have Kate to thank for all of that.

To the bosses and employees who have helped me make it to the end I am so thankful for all you’ve done, you have no idea how big of an impact you’ve been on me. To the friends I’ve made, you’ve been so much fun to work with and have made these last few years so much more memorable.

For everyone whose read my blogs over the last three years, thank you so much for your support and to the graduates, congratulations and good luck in the future.

This is it. This is my farwell to everyone who has followed Reeve Union via social sites this past year. It's been a great experience having the responsibility of sharing all the Union's news on this blog, Twitter, and Facebook this past year. My exit from Reeve Union happens at the same time that we celebrate another successful year at UW Oshkosh. SO, let me recap my favorite happenings from this past year.

(in no particular order)

1. Summer Scoops. It happens all summer on the Albee Patio. Reeve staffers serve up ice cream for just 50 cents a scoops.

2. Homecoming. Homecoming this past year was especially fun with Tent City located on the stadium grounds. The food was delicous and the Titans almost beat UW Whitewater. However the Comedy Central comedians were more offensive than humorous.

3. The first week of the "Feed the Beast" campaign. Why? Just because it was funny watching students try to figure out the purpose of the trash cans made to look like monsters.

4. Announcing Bye Gosh Fest headliner, All Time Low. There were people from all over the Midwest messaging me(Reeve Union) for details on the concert. Trust me, it's pretty cool to have so much attention after announcing a major concert.

5. Releasing the Zimride promo video. This was the most rewarding result I could have imagined after just beginning to create videos for Reeve. The company even called the videographer and myself to thank us for our work.

It's here! The annual student send off hosted by UW Oshkosh and organized by Reeve Union Board is set for Thursday May 3rd from 4pm to 8pm. At the core of this year's event is the globally known act, All Time Low.

Below we have the epic promo video created for the event. Reeve Marketing was challenged with creating this masterpiece over the course of 3 days. It was a fun project to undergo because the all the footage was taken already by members of Reeve Union Board. Josh(designer and editor) and myself(wandering creative) had the freedom to create a story using the pieces of footage we had acquired. We came up with intro that highlighted a world terrorized by a mutated chicken. Enjoy this fun promo, and most importantly enjoy the concert.

Fri, 20 Apr 2012 08:06:00 -0700 So You're Hunting for a Job? http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/124496012 http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/124496012

College is a four to seven year car ride from the state of dependence to independence. Unfortunately this ride moves at 120 MPH for the final few months, and upon arrival to independence, one is forcefully faced with bills. What type of bills you ask? Rent, parking, internet, phone, gas, food, car insurance, car payment, student loan repayment(you have to pay those back), cable, taxes, etc. Yes, far more than the average college student handles. Now this is where things get real; you need to find a full time job with a sustainable wage and benefits.

I'm going to be frank. Job hunting sucks. It sucks because you have no control over what happens after you apply for a position. The idea that you could spend hours searching for a job and then hours tweaking your resume and writing a cover letter, just to get a response saying "no thanks" will haunt you as much as the uncertainty of life after graduation will. Beyond that, you could even interview multiple times for a position only to have your inflated expectations burst by a Friday morning rejection email. Gah, it's tough, the search sucks, but getting an offer will be a most amazing feeling.

You can probably tell where I'm going with the blog at this point. Here are my tips regarding searching for a job:

1. Don't use Craigslist while looking for a career. If a quality job is posted on Craigslist, I'm sure it will be posted on a much more legitimate site as well. By avoiding Craigslist, you're weeding out the most undesirable jobs and possible scams. I've seen far to many people career shopping on this website.

2. Give Titan Jobs a chance. A lot of the postings on Titan Jobs are meant to attract recent college grads. Being a college grad means you have minimal experience, employers who are willing to hire inexperienced talent will be in on this job board.

3. Research and establish a list of preferenced employers. Go out on the interwebs, create a list of firms in the industry you would like to work in, and constantly monitor their career website for job postings. You''ll get to know the company better, and they may even get the opportunity to be introduced to you.

4. Focus on getting a job and not a paycheck. Don't just think, "This job has to pay at least $38,000 a year." Rather you should be thinking, "Being an insurance fraud investigator with American Family is spot on with my career interests."

5. Be realistic. You're not going to be hired as an art director for Deutsch or as a portfolio manager for Goldman Sachs straight out of UW Oshkosh. Look for jobs that will develope and build your human capital value. You're not entitled to your dream, you need to earn it.

6. Don't put all your chips in one pot. One does not simply apply to jobs online and get an offer. You need to strut your stuff beyond that. Try to network with people within orgnaizations already and connect with the recruiters through Twitter and Facebook. You'd be amazed at how effective an employee referral would go.

7. Keep Calm and Apply On. If you get turned down for ajob, just bounce right back and search for more. Don't give up and don't become desperate.

I've just gone through this exhausting process already this semester. It's takes a toll on an job seeker emotional, but the reward of a job will lift you into nirvanna for an evening. Make sure you do plenty of research before an interview, and follow up professionally. Also, don't expect to make the big bucks right out of college. Your education is an investment that has yet to come to maturity. Happy Hunting!

Wed, 28 Mar 2012 13:01:55 -0700 Got Stress? http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/got-stress http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/got-stress
Sc2_title

By: Jason Dordel

Everyone knows how stressful college can be. Especially leading up to a big paper or exam. Sometimes you have got to just take a breather, grab a nice tall glass of water (or any other favorite beverage) and do something to relieve that stress.  Let’s face it, too much of anything can be bad, even studying.

Where do I turn to in stressful times when I need a break you ask? I don’t go far, my computer desk to be exact. I boot up my trusty computer that I built and load up a game called Starcraft II. For those of you who have never heard of Starcraft, it’s basically a space RTS (Real Time Strategy) game made by Blizzard Entertainment. You may have heard of Blizzard from hit games such as World of Warcraft, and Diablo.  There are a few ways to play Starcraft. One, you can play the campaign and go through the story of the game. Two, you can go online and play games that people around the world make specifically for Starcraft with the built in game editor. Or, three, (which is my favorite), you can go online and play against other people (the whole idea being to build an army and be more tactful then your opponent).

The main reason I find this game so enjoyable is due to the adrenaline rush you get from it. Ok, you might be thinking, wait, what? How can a video game give me an adrenaline rush? Especially all you non-gamers out there but believe me it can and it will.  My rush comes from the fact that I am playing against another person somewhere in the world. It’s just you and them, and that’s really exciting to me. It unleashes that competitive side in me that we all posses, even if you don’t realize you have a competitive side. That and some good ole dubstep playing for background music just makes the whole experience something I look forward to whenever time permits.

If any of this blog has interested you I would definitely recommend checking Starcraft out. Also, a great place to go for tips to getting better at the game. Or even becoming a pro gamer in Starcraft (yea you can do that) I would go check out a website called “Day9.tv”. This site revolves around what’s called the Day9 Daily. Which is a show streamed live every Sun-Thurs from 9 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.  Not only is this show educational on gaming, but also, it is also extremely funny.

It doesn’t matter what you do to take a break from the stress of college, just do something for an hour or so and relax. It will make studying so much better.  You can come back to your studies with a fresh mind ready to get that studying done and ace that next exam.

Wed, 21 Mar 2012 10:17:41 -0700 Top 5 Trendy iPhone Apps to Download http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/top-5-trendy-iphone-apps-to-download http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/top-5-trendy-iphone-apps-to-download

Ever since the release of the iPhone 4S last October there seems to be an iPhone frenzy on the UW Oshkosh campus. In the Reeve Marketing office alone there are six of us with iPhones out of seven. Crazy? Maybe not. Apple products seem to be gaining more and more momentum as time goes on. So, if you're a new iPhone user or just wondering whether to make the switch, here are five of the best apps to download.

*All of the following apps can be downloaded for FREE through the Apple app store

1) Instagram: If you're looking for a creative and simple way to share your photos with friends Instagram is definitely the way to go. All you have to do is take pictures through the Instagram app and then pick from one of the amazing filtering effects. You can also follow your friends photos and upload to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Foursquare and Posterous.

2) Draw Something: This social drawing game has quickly become a hit. You don't have to be an artist to play because the point of the game is to create funny pictures that will help the friend your playing with guess the word that you are trying to display. You can create games with freinds from Facebook, Twitter or be matched with a random opponent.

3) UW Oshkosh: The UW Oshkosh app was updated last semester and is a great tool to have handy. You can search the campus directory, browse the Advanced- Titan or UW Oshkoksh Today, view the University Twitter feed and even check out where you are on campus.

4) Temple Run: If you love to play games on your phone, check Temple Run out. This game is addicting because of its easy swipe and tilt controls and the amazing 3D running display.

5) Twitter: Whatever your interests are, you can probably find someone talking about them on Twitter. The iPhone Twitter app is now equipped with a home, connect and discover page. Through these different pages on the app you can follow the most recent tweets, easily view your recent interactions with others on Twitter and discover new interesting topics to follow.

What apps are you lovin right now? Find any great ones while traveling over spring break? Please share with us!

This past Monday was the premiere of Dancing with the Stars, a show I don’t normally watch, but for Donald Driver I wouldn’t miss it! He is my all time favorite Packer and the first jersey I’ve ever owned.

His performance was the only one I watched and it was amazing, he did such a great job, I am so proud to call him my favorite. Partnering with Peta Murgatroyd they danced the Cha Cha, she was super sassy and of course his famous smile lit up the entire dance floor. The connection between them is already great and I can only imagine how much better it will get.

I think I’ll have to wear my jersey next Monday to show my true support; maybe it will bring him some luck.  Be sure to check it out next Monday and show your Packer pride! Check out his performance below.

Wed, 21 Mar 2012 07:37:00 -0700 Sex...Okay, Let's Talk. http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/sexokay-lets-talk http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/sexokay-lets-talk

Written by Deniz Cakmak

Even as college students 'sex' is an uncomfortable subject for us. You're probably blushing or shifting in your seat while reading this. Well, what if we changed that? What if talking about sex- what you like and dislike was discussed before having sex? What if, instead of just the absence of "no," an enthusiastic "yes" was required as a standard for sexual consent?

Great! The members of CARE (Campus for Awareness and Relationship Education) think this is important too. Consent matters, and we like to tell everyone about it! That's why we brought in Jaclyn Friedman, a writer, educator, activist and the editor for the hit book "Yes Means Yes: Visions of the Female Sexual Power and a World Without Rape".

Friedman discussed issues in our society, like how we see sex as a commodity that women need to protect and men need to get. She helped us break those paradigms and really think about what it would be like if our culture was able to see sex as a collaborative performance, and how if we saw it that way, sex could just be THAT much better! After all, you want to be pleasing your partner, not hurting them or not making them feel good.

She did give us a couple of things to think about to get on the path of enthusiastic consent:

1. Start with yourself: You want to make sure you actually want to be with this person on a sexual level... and if you don't, why are you doing it?

2. Only yes means yes: I think that about covers it. If your partner decides they don't want it anymore, you stop and respect how they feel.

3. If you can't tell, you have to ask: Often we get into this gray area where men or women feel like they need to take control because that's what they think they need to do. Easiest way to avoid this issue, just ask. It may be awkward, but it's better for everyone involved.

4. Continuous consent: Sort of a repeat of number two. If at any point you decide you don't want to do it anymore it is completely okay to say so.

5. Play safe: Sex can be really fun! In order for it to be fun, make sure you play it safe, and protect yourself.

6. No lying: Always be honest with your partner. Things like STD's are really important for your partner to be aware of. If you aren't being truthful, you aren't letting your partner be completely consensual.

Not only did all the attendee's as well as myself get to learn about how important it is to have conversations about sex, but also to break the boxes that women and men are often put into about their sexuality. Jaclyn helped us all learn how to build a healthy personal sexuality and how to build new skills to express our sexuality with our lovers.

A personal thanks to everyone that came to the event, as well as Jaclyn Freidman who was able to come! What an amazingly funny, imformative and inspirational speaker!

Thu, 01 Mar 2012 10:48:00 -0800 American Birkebeiner http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/american-birkebeiner http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/american-birkebeiner

This past Saturday, February 25, I went home for the 39th Annual American Birkebeiner or as us locals call it, the Birkie. It’s kind of a big deal, streets get shut down for it and school is canceled. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it the Birkie is a 50K ski race where around 11,000 skiers of all ages compete each year. The elite skiers start the race first followed by waves of the next skiers which are categorized based on previous times.

Once we walked to Main Street where the race ends and found a spot where we could see the first place skier was crossing Lake Hayward and rounding the corner to the finish line. With cowbells at the ready we welcomed Tad Elliot from Durango, CO as he crossed the finish line, at a whopping 24 years old he had just won the Birkie in a little over two hours! The first three finishers were all from the United States, something to be proud of. The female winner was Holly Brooks from Anchorage, AL with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes.

It was fun to be able to cheer on all the people, a lot of them looked like they needed an extra boost to get them to the finish line. I also loved hearing the names of people I know, I was so proud of all of them.

My sister and I stayed to cheer on our good friend Phil, who was skiing the Birkie for the first time. Being able to cheer him on as he skied towards the finish line was so much fun, we are so proud of him!

If you’d like to plan a trip to Hayward for the 40th anniversary Birkebeiner the dates are February 21-23, 2013, hopefully I’ll see you there!

Fri, 17 Feb 2012 09:23:00 -0800 So You Got an Interview? http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/so-you-got-an-interview-eh http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/so-you-got-an-interview-eh

It’s that time of the year. For some people this means summer jobs and for others it means a first career. It’s a tough process looking for jobs and submitting applications(cover letters argh!). So when you do land an interview go ahead and pat yourself on the back, that’s awesome.

Interviews can go in a combination of directions. The interviewer is really trying to understand you, your capabilities, work ethic, and ability to fit into a business’s culture. It’s important you do your homework, perform in the interview, and show excellence afterwards. I wouldn’t declare myself an expert however I do have a fair degree of interview experience to share.

Pre Interview

Research the company. Research ten times more than you researched for your paper in WBIS. It’s important to soak up as much information about the company as possible. The website likely has mountains of information. If you already know someone withinthe organization don't be afrad to ask them for information and tips about the hiring process.

The Actually Interview

Don’t be nervous. Well, maybe you should. What kind of weird person doesn’t feel any nerves before an interview. Be sure to talk and behave professionally, however make sure your personality is still evident in the conversation. A lot of people turn into a corporate robots during interviews to maximize a professional façade. Always be armed with questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the conversation. Lastly, dress like a boss and be sure to get business cards from the interviewer.

Post Interview

Now is your time to shine. It’s likely that most of your competition isn’t on top of their game enough to send a thank you message to the interviewer. Be sure to compose a thank you message to the person/persons you interviewed with. You can send either a hand written note or an email. It’s up to you to judge which medium is most appropriate.

The waiting game is always stressful so keep yourself busy. I suggest you get NetFlix and start watching every episode of the show Dexter. If 10-14 days go by without hearing anything I suggest you follow-up with the individual you’ve been in contact with at the company. You can simply ask if they need any further information from you or if a decision has been reached on the position. These things take time and don’t get worked up if it’s going slow.

Happy Job Hunting.

G’day!

This January I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Australia for three amazing weeks. I had been thinking about this trip for the last two years and was finally able to go, if any of you are on the edge about studying abroad I seriously recommend it, you won’t regret it.

The first week of our trip we spent in Cairns which was extremely hot and humid, however; I’d take that over snow any day. While we were in Cairns I went scuba diving and snorkeling for the first time, and what better place to do that than in The Great Barrier Reef? I had a great time and loved being able to see the fish and reefs up close.

Some other things we did in Cairns were visit the Daintree Rainforest, fed the kangaroos, and held a koala bear. We also learned about a few of the businesses and services in Australia, one of my personal favorites was the Royal Flying Doctors, they offer clinics and in the case of a serious injury, planes.

After Cairns we flew to Sydney where the temperature was a lot cooler and much more bearable. In Sydney we each had volunteer placements which actually turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip, I was able to meet a lot of great people who I’ve been able to keep in touch with. My placement was at St. Vincent De Paul, our main project was helping them to reorganize and clean the store. It took quite a while but in the end it looked great and knowing who and how we were helping gave us the extra motivation we all needed, and it was a great experience.

A few of my favorite memories in Sydney are the cricket match we went to, the Aboriginal community we visited, the Harry Potter Museum, seeing Sydney University, the botanical gardens, the Sydney Opera House, and our walk through the bush.

Our last day in Sydney fell on Australia Day, they had tons of booths and crafters set up all around town. That night we watched fireworks at Darling Harbour which completely blew ours out of the water. Not only were they gorgeous but they lasted at least a half hour and they had laser beams and music that matched up with the fireworks.

I had an amazing trip and would go back in a heartbeat, it any of you are thinking of going let me know if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them!

Mon, 23 Jan 2012 11:46:00 -0800 Interim Study Abroad Adventures http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/interim-study-abroad-adventures http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/interim-study-abroad-adventures

Over Winterim this semester, from December 30 to January 14, I left Oshkosh for Fulda, Germany. Since hearing about study abroad trips as a freshman I have wanted to do this. As the day I would board the bus got closer, I got a little more nervous. My nerves hit hard because I thought I wouldn't make friends fast enough or be alright away from home for two weeks. As it turned out, I took more away from my study abroad trip to Germany than I ever thought I would. For those of you still wondering if the money or time away is worth it, here's a quick recap of my trip.

Class Time

Originally, I had no idea how learning or class would be incorporated into our study abroad experience. When I thought about the trip I almost completely left out the actual school part. What actually happened is that our group of about twenty students attended a UW Oshkosh partner school- the University of Hoschule, Fulda

Because this trip was through the College of Business and would earn us six credits, we had to attend two classes each day. The first class was a global business management course taught by UW Oshkosh professor Mark Manske, that went from 9 a.m. until noon Monday through Thursday. We then had a lunch break to eat in the school cafeteria. From 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. we were taught basic German by professors from the German university. This might seem like a long period of time, but several days were cut short due to other activities that we had to go to.

The best and most beneficial part about our class was hearing from the students from Iran, Ukraine, Germany, South Korea and Mexico. These students were a part of our group for the entire two

weeks and gave us plenty of new persepctives.

Entertainment

Each night our group had something to do thanks to the planning of the international coordinator from Horschule University. We got to do things like take a salsa class, a German cooking class and attend a film festival. All of these things were something different that we would normally not get the chance to do. The activities brought the group closer as well.

Beyond what we got to do in Fulda, we also visited Berlin for the weekend and Frankfurt for the day. In Berlin we got a walking tour of the city, which was beautiful but a bit freezing, and a tour of the parliment building. Then, in Frankfurt we went to the Dialog Museum. This was especially unique because it allowed our group to travel through pitch black rooms and experience what it would be like to be blind. After the mueseum we went to a traditional German restaurant, which was of course delicious.

After getting this amazing chance to travel to Europe, I would recommend studying abroad to every student. Just think, when is there a better time than as a college student? If you're looking for study abroad opportunities check out the study abroad fair in Reeve on February 9, 2012.

It's Tuesday, and Reeve Union is lacking its most important piece...the students. Here's an FYI for you at home in case you are curious when you'll be seeing your final grades from this semester.

Tue, 20 Dec 2011 08:08:00 -0800 Five Must Watch Shows Over Break http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/five-must-watch-shows-over-break http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/five-must-watch-shows-over-break

Now that finals are over and you finally have some down time, you might be wondering what do to. In this case, I always turn to my favorite cozy sweatpants and several essential snacks. Then, I grab my computer and start watching a new show. Now the real question is which one should I choose? A few of my coworkers and I put together this top five list of our favorite shows. You can view these on Netflix, Hulu or even rent them at your local movie store. These are in no particular order as they all rock my socks.

1. Modern Family

No show has ever made me laugh out loud like Modern Family. The characters pretty much make it great because of how strange but relatable they are. Really, you can't go wrong by tuning into a show that have managed to win 11 Emmys.

2. Pretty Little Liars

If you're looking for a little bit of suspense and a lot of girl drama, Pretty Little Liars is perfect for you. Start from season one and be drawn in by all of the lying, secrets and mystery.

3. How to Make it in America

This HBO hit is currently on its second season. The healthy mix of comedy and drama will keep you watching as the main characters struggle to get rich in New York.

4. How I Met Your Mother

In my opinion, this show will never get old. Every episode starts with the main character, Ted, telling his children about the way that he met their mom. This leads into story after hysterical story of Ted and his best friends.

5. New Girl

New Girl can definitely be described as quirky. Jess (aka Zooey Deschanel) is the awkward star of this new comedy.

Are there any epic shows that are missing from this list? What else are you doing over break to keep yourself entertained?

Wed, 14 Dec 2011 22:05:00 -0800 Countdown to Australia http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/countdown-to-australia http://reeveconnectors.posterous.com/countdown-to-australia

For those of you who follow our blogs you probably already know that I'm studying abroad to Australia in January. I've started my countdown and let me just say I am beyond excited to go! As I've said before I am a huge Crocodile Dundee fan so this is where I've always wanted to go. My countdown is at 22 days! I can't wait to be somewhere warm, but don't worry, I'll post tons of pictures while you enjoy the snow!

The thing I am most excited for is our trip to The Great Barrier Reef. Something I learned in one of our classes is that The Great Barrier Reef is actually dying, and they can't do much to fix it. Luckily I'll be able to scuba dive there while I still have the chance to.

Some other things I'm extremely excited about is learning how to throw a boomerang, learning about their culture, meeting new people, and of course the kangaroos which are apparently like deer. It's not uncommon to see them dead along the road but I'll still be that tourist who snaps a ton of pictures when I see them.

Be sure to check back for my blog once I come back so you can hear all about my trip.
